Today we get to practice self-kindness together, we will do a short kid-friendly activity based on the popular Loving Kindness Meditation. Self-kindness is amazingly beneficial and I’m so happy to hear that my previous article on kindness inspired a child and a grandparent to practice together.

I got this email from a mindful grandmother:

“My grandson has struggled with bullies at school. We read your email together and have started the practice of self kindness. He has been doing the meditation. He thinks it helps him feel better. “

I’m so happy to hear that the practice helped. I know how devastating bullying is. It can easily strip away your self-worth and ultimately your self-kindness, too. You begin to think that all the mean things are true and that you’re not enough. I know  this from my own experience.

So, now I want to share this practice with you in video format. I promise it’s easy to do :)

But first I want to share a study on kindness…

Is kindness a predictor for a brighter future?

A study that tracked kindergarteners until they turned 25 found that kind behavior in kindergarten is a predictor for:
improved education,
job prospects,
criminal activity,
likelihood of substance abuse,
and fewer years on medication for emotional or behavioral issues.

Students who were kinder and more co-operative with their peers did better as adults!

What if kindness was taught to children in school? Not just in words but as a practice that actually developed the skill? How would that change lives?

So, let’s do a quick self-kindness activity together…
